📋 Ingredients and notes
As the name suggests, these 3 ingredient Nutella cookies are made with only Nutella, egg, and all-purpose flour.
Notes and Variations
- Substitute eggs: You have the option of substituting water and oil for the egg in your cookie recipe, or you could use cornstarch and water instead.
- Nutella substitute: If you're all out of Nutella, any other hazelnut-flavored or chocolate spread will do the trick. You just need something with the rich chocolate flavor and the same consistency as Nutella!
- Add a little bit of flair. Dressing up your cookies is easy and delicious! Try drizzling them with melted chocolate or dipping them in, then add a sprinkle of chopped nuts for extra flavor and texture. You can add chocolate chips to the dough, a bit of brown sugar on top, or even vanilla extract to the cookies to amplify the flavors.
📖 Make 3 ingredient Nutella cookies!
To cook these amazing and delicious cookies the first thing you need to do is to preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, add Nutella and a single egg. Mix until just combined.
Add the flour and mix (all at once) for about 3 minutes until fully incorporated or until you get a uniform sticky dough. You can use a hand mixer, a stand mixer, or just use a spatula and apply some elbow grease for this step.
Cover and place the dough in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
Form 12 to 15 balls from the dough (approximately 25 grams each). Place the balls 2 inches apart onto a prepared baking sheet (lined with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat).
Now, this is optional if you want to fill the cookies with Nutella. To create a well, use your finger or the bottom of a wooden spoon to press the center of each cookie dough ball. Bake at 350°F until edges are golden, around 10 minutes.
Let them cool for about 10 minutes before placing them to a cooling rack to cool completely. Pipe the Nutella onto the cookies. Unbelievably easy!
Enjoy your delicious 3 ingredient Nutella cookies!
👩🏽🍳Top Tips for Nutella Cookies!
Look, it really doesn't get simpler than these 3-ingredient Nutella cookies, but here are three tips that will help you get this cookie just right every time.
- Use good quality hazelnut spread. Since there are only 3 ingredients in the recipe, using a high-quality hazelnut spread is key to getting the best-tasting cookies!
- Do not over-bake. The nicest texture for these cookies is achieved when they look *slightly* underbaked so that they are still slightly soft and chewy. So, it might look like they're not fully cooked, but they'll continue to bake even after you remove them.
- Let the cookies cool completely. Once they are out of the oven, let them cool on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This helps them to set and prevents them from falling apart.
👩🏽🍳Troubleshooting FAQs
Nutella contains skim milk which is a dairy product and therefore not vegan. However, there are some vegan alternatives to Nutella that use ingredients like hazelnut butter, cocoa powder, and coconut milk. While they may not taste exactly the same as Nutella, they can still be delicious and satisfying!
The most likely explanation here is too much flour. Too much flour can make the dough dry and stiff, preventing it from spreading.
One way to tell if your Nutella cookies are ready is by looking for cracks on the edges. When the cookies are first placed in the oven, they will be soft and doughy. However, as they bake, the edges will begin to harden and crack. Another way to test doneness is by lightly pressing on the center of the cookie. If it springs back, it is probably ready. However, if it leaves an indentation, it needs to be bake for a few minutes longer.
You can substitute the egg with a flax egg or Just Egg, half a banana mashed, or ¼th cup of applesauce. That said, note that using bananas or applesauce in the recipe will alter the flavor!
🍴 Serving and storage suggestions
You can keep these Nutella cookies fresh by storing them in the fridge in an airtight container for 4-5 days. If you want to extend their shelf life, freeze them inside a ziplock bag; these should last for 2-6 months.
If you'd like to freeze the cookies, I recommend freezing them without the Nutella filling at the center. You can frost the cookies after defrosting, once they are at room temperature.
