Slice the onions as thinly as possible. Place garlic, red pepper flakes, and sliced onions in a jar.


In a small sauce pan, add vinegar, equal parts water, salt, and sugar and heat until the sugar and salt fully dissolve in the liquid. 


Then, pour this liquid into the jar with onions. Let it sit uncovered until the brine cools down.


Place the jar in the fridge for about an hour or two, but make sure to chill at least 30 minutes before serving.
